Cold beers on tap are a welcome reprieve while travelling.
Food was pretty average.
Service, a bit rough but not unfriendly.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had lunch beef burger delux. Excelleny meal. Would have given 5 stars but service a bit slow. Staff were friendly and a lovely spot for a break whilst travelling. Pet friendly too.

Have now eaten here. Food passable. Service still gruff. Made me laugh how miserable she was.
Don't count on the free WiFi either. The password is closely guarded!

Check first if you want food in the evening.
It's on SH1 so very handy. Visited in the evening when it's mainly a bar for locals. A gruff woman behind the bar told us the kitchen closed about 7.30. can't comment on service during the day - it may be better.
If you're looking for food in the evening I would recommend the motel the towhai tavern which is only 5 minutes from here. See my review of it...
