★ ★ ★ ★ ★ So it would appear that I am a little “out of the ordinary” because I cannot praise IRD enough for the incredible assistance they gave me while trying to sort out a very serious issue for a family member who had been the unwitting victim of a person who purported to know how to file tax information and returns, but who failed to do so, resulting in massive fines and penalties. I could not fault the staff or IRD, even though I got a different person every time I called (probably no less that 10 times), the system ensured that the person could see exactly what the issue was I was dealing with and so just picked up where the last person left off. I would never have believed that IRD could be so obliging and so enabling. By being completely upfront with the Department, all penalties and interest was credited off the debt - well done IRD, I couldn’t have sorted the mess with out your patience and help. Your staff in the call centre deserve a pat on the back for their professional manner and helpful advice.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The human interface of the Inland Revenue phone number is possibly the second worst in the country. (The worst belongs to Novopay.) However Inland Revenue's Palmerston North office is the pearl among the sewerage. They are cheerful, patient, considerate, and will go to any lengths to help you.
You are treated as a valued client, you are respected and you actually leave the place feeling good. They are an example of what customer service should be.
