★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Completed my Kepler track in 2 days. Started from car park towards Iris Burn(~9hrs). And then to Luxmore (~10hrd). It is totally doable. The campsite is nice and clean. But there are lots of flys in the open area. At night, it could get very very cold and there won't be any sun until noon (it is inside a valley and the mountain blocks the sun). The ranger recommends to set up the tent in the wood instead of open area.
Going from Iris Burn to Luxmore, the first 2 hours is a very challenging uphill climb. After that, amazing view and the remaining hike is like a piece of cake.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great hut after, probably, the toughest day on the Kepler Track. Very good location, clean hut and more than enough room and facilities for cooking. We saw 2 Blue Ducks over there by chance, brilliant!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice place for hut stayers. An expensive place for campers. 1 minute walk separate hut and campsite. There is an open air pavilion/ shelter for sitting and dining. Waterless toilets loaded with sandflies.
In the bottom of the valley, not the hut with greatest view in Kepler track. But this is an important stop you must stay overnight no matter which direction you walk from.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A gorgeous hut in the valley just below the crossing section of the Kepler Track. This hut is one of the nicer I have stayed at in the DOC system. Very well run and super clean. The sandflys are a nuisance here, but not as bad as some other areas on the trail. Fortunately, the door for the toilets/changing area are kept closed most the time and you can escape them for your personal business.
The area here is quite nice with a cool waterfall only 20 minutes walk away. Many of the hikers are coming down from the Luxmore Hut to reach Iris Burn and complained of the strenuous hike down into the valley. Many of them utilize the pool of water near the waterfall to refresh their weary bodies. Some opportunity to spot a Kea (alpine Parrot) and the Whio (blue duck). The Kea may come and steal your boots, so make sure you hang them on the elevated pegs provided outside. As a great walks hut, it comes with clean water and gas stoves for cooking. So you have a little less to carry along.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you are going to do the Kepler great walk in a counterclockwise direction, you will get here for your second night (after Luxmore hut). You will love to see this place because you will have to descend about 1000 meters to get here. Going up to the Kepler mountains was not nearly as demanding as going down. You will be tired and sore, which is why you will love this place get you get here haha. There is plenty of water to drink. There is a short detour you can take after you arrive to nearby falls. This place though comes alive at night. There are a couple of kiwis here, if you want to see them make sure you bring a flashlight with a red filter (they can’t see red). If you don’t you will scare them away. There are many bunks, grab one away from a snoring person haha. Leave your shoes/boots tied up on coat hooks so the Kia bird don’t peck and destroy them.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went in the winter of 2020 and I had the entire hut to myself. Unfortunately I couldn't get a fire started but that is because I have no ability whatsoever in starting fires. This is a great hut along the Kepler Track that I would recommend to anyone.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Well placed hut in the middle of the Kepler track. Close to a nice waterfall and river. Sometimes kiwis can be seen around here in the nighttime (we heard them but didn't see any). Appreciate the hard work the DOC crew do to keep everything running well, especially to Doug for keeping us informed and prepared during our stay.
