★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful wee park in the heart of Oamaru near the Victorian part of town. I lived in Oamaru all my childhood and never took much notice of this wee park until recent years and realised how beautiful and well maintained it is <3. The arch in Jones Park was said to be built to remember George Jones (b. 1844, Lower Hutt) who owned the Oamaru Mail for 40 years. The park's beauty could also reflect the wealth and beauty of Oamaru during the 1800s when it was thought Oamaru would become a prominent town, with all the lovely buildings as it's crown and glory!
