About Kahui Tu Kaha
We support Te Rūnanga ō Ngāti Whātua with fulfilling its sacred obligation to extend manaakitanga to all people who reside within its tribal boundaries.
Me akiaki i te mana o ngā tāngata i te rohe o Ngāti Whātua.
Our vision and our purpose:
We are a Ngāti Whātua organisation, characterised by diversity and committed to achieving meaningful health and social outcomes for everyone. This identity gives us both our purpose and our vision.
Our history:
In 1973, we established community residential services for people leaving psychiatric hospitals. We were first known as Baptist Health, then Baptist Action, and later as Te Korowai Aroha.
In 2006, the services of Te Korowai Aroha were transferred to a new and independent charitable company, Affinity Services.
In 2016, Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua were given sole authority to appoint the Trustees to Affinity Services Charitable Trust, who are the parent body and appoint the Directors of the charitable company.
Our name:
In 2017, the name of the charitable company changed from Affinity Services to Kāhui Tū Kaha.
In the context of our work, our name means ‘working together – standing strong’.

Manaakitanga: enhancing the mana of others
Rangatiratanga: supporting people’s self-determination
Whakawhanaungatanga: establishing relationships, a sense of belonging, family connections and kinship.
Our vision:
We are committed to achieving meaningful health and social outcomes for everyone. We advocate for equity in outcomes, seeking to influence changes in the delivery of publicly funded services.
Kahui Tu Kaha is a Ngati Whatua organisation providing social housing, mental health and other services.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have had the pleasure of working with kaimahi at Te Kotiu. As a Registered Nurse employed under WDHB I was a case manager for multiple tangata whaioras. The kaimahi showed compassion, aroha and provided exceptional care. I was also very pleased with the support and work ethic Chris provided. Made me feel welcomed and part of the whaanau. I could see how Chris and the other kaimahi's at Te Kotiu became therapeutic anchors for our residents. Wish him and the team all the best :)

I personally want to thank Chris Ruri who has helped me in areas of my life that has removed barriers, opened new opportunities and developed growth for my well being. Chris has done nothing but show support, respect and provided help with multiple situations that has only made things lighter. I understand that Kahui Tu Kaha is an organization that is focused in areas for people who need. But when an individual takes the time, work and effort to help improve your life's requirements. Its shown me the value of that persons heart and that it's more then just a 9 to 5 job. I am blessed and so grateful for everything that Chris has done and continues to do.

i have had the pleasure of working alongside Chris Ruri from Kahui tu kaha for some time now and it has been such an awesome journey from the beginning. . Chris has helped to support the whanau of our wahine here at Auckland Women Refuge. I have made numerous referrals to Chris, Chris has gone above and beyond to help our wahine in Crisis There has been times when our wahine and tamariki required urgent support due to their circumstances. Again, Chris willingly will adjusts his schedule to be available for when wahine need support. This has been such a blessing to not only myself but my team. The way you respond to changes in various situations has been an asset as i work in a crisis setting, This is such a crucial skill and Chris has shown this on numerous occasions when I have approached him with high risk complex cases. Chris, Your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed, words cannot express how you have gone over and beyond your role of work.
