★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the region’s best playgrounds, particularly for young children. Nice, quiet setting by the lake, with wooden walkways and viewing areas. Facilities include picnic benches and modern toilets. Playground equipment is new, tidy and varied. Beautiful in the evening with the sun setting across the lake and through the trees.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is a highlight of Kaiapoi, amongst many others. There are two main lakes, one each side of the road north out of Kaiapoi. We stopped off for our exercise break today, Just a walk around the lakes. It's a great place lace with mostly flat walking on good tracks and paths with lovely views of the lake and the wildlife. I even got keen and took my old Nikon out for a spell of photography. Lots of wildlife to photograph or just watch. We saw, Canada geese, black swans with Cygnets, Australasian coots, a pair of beautiful friendly black ducks. Mallards and their ducklings, welcome swallow and the usual gulls, starlings, sparrows a few pied shags and a flock of pigeons. It's a very tranquil place with seats and picnic tables at intervals where you can just sit and soak up the sun and the restful atmosphere. There are public toilets on both sides of the lakes and a good kids' playground . There are regular observation platforms for you to stop and admire the scenery. The locals we met were very pleasant and friendly. You can access the playground without walking in, but I wouldn't tell the kids. After all the time indoors through lockdowns and restrictions, they probably need the fresh air and exercise!. Go there. Enjoy the peace and have a bit of fresh air and sunshine. There are fish in the lake if you are a keen angler, but check the rules before you go. Also, please don't feed the birds bread, there is a notice there asking you not to. Enjoy!
