About Kaihere School

Kaihere School is a U1, decile 7 rural full primary school catering for students from Year 0 through to Year 8.

We currently have three classes that allow the teachers to give intensive attention to individuals and small groups.

Kaihere School is nestled above the Hauraki Plains in the hills of the Hapuakohe range, and boasts a commanding view of the Coromandel hills. The grounds are huge and overlook the Plains and Thames in the distance.

The school has beautiful classrooms that have been modernised without losing the character of their time. It is well resourced with a modern administration area and well stocked computerised library. The school continues to build its capacity for ICT, with a pod of ipads used in the junior room and years 3-8 increasingly using Google products and the internet to support their learning.

The playground encourages creative play and includes a play house, a native bush walk, a great fort with slides, climbing frames and monkey bars. A large playing field complements the school, supporting sports such as rugby, soccer, hockey and cricket. The concrete playing area has a netball court, and a basketball hoop, whilst the school has a good range of sporting equipment and resources.

Our school pool is well used throughout the summer months, and daily lessons are given for the classes, with the senior room travelling in to nearby Ngatea twice a week for sessions in the bigger pool.

Academic expectations are high and the students perform well in the annual National Standards reporting cycle. Our learner’s needs are met with small class sizes, personalised learning that targets individual needs. Students are actively encouraged and supported to develop effective work habits and time management skills. Staff and students are supported by experienced teaching assistants.

All students are part of our "Enviroschools " programme which we have recently re-established to continue and build on the previous years’ work around our school gardens and grounds. Our school was awarded a Bronze award previously and we want to encourage these practices.

The school actively encourages a wide range of sporting, EOTC and leadership opportunities. Its students enjoy a successful and seamless transition to Hauraki Plains College. Kaihere School students have a proud heritage of success and leadership through their secondary years.

An active Board of Trustees and Home and School Committee support the school. The community make substantial contributions to the resourcing of the school and are consulted regularly on the direction the school is taking. The Board meet monthly and the school is compliant with all requirements.

The school is looking forward to a period of stability and growth as we continue to develop and provide quality education for our students and community.
