About Karitane Nurses & Nannies
Karitane® Limited is the new name for the Karitane Nurses and Nannies Bureau which was established in 1978 to provide trained Karitane Nurses opportunities to continue their profession in the home following the closure of the Auckland Karitane Hospital. Karitane Nurse training involved 16 months of intensive instruction and practical experience in a Karitane Hospital and a further 4 months practical work in private NZ homes. Once the hospitals closed, the Karitane Bureau provided a means for these qualified baby whisperers to find work with families.
Since then Karitane® has expanded to become one of the leading nanny agencies in New Zealand, specialising in providing families with Karitane Nurses, maternity nannies, permanent and temporary nannies (both full and part time) and babysitters. We have offices in Auckland, Wellington, Hawkes Bay and Christchurch, but some of our Karitane Nurses and maternity nannies are willing to travel (at your cost) to help you and you family out.
Karitane® prides itself on a professional and thorough service whether for a short term placement or more permanent requirements.
We have a personalised approach to all our permanent and casual placements. Karitane® recognises that every family is unique and has its own special requirements that’s why we take time to talk personally with you and fully understand what your needs are (eg days, times) and to get a feel for your ideal nanny or babysitter

We had a medical emergency and within 24 hours we had a night nanny booked who handled everything for our little baby so the family could sleep and recover and build back strength. That is a money can’t buy gift and one we will be considering again in the future for ourselves and as gifts for friends with babies.
