About Kelburn Normal School
In developing our framework, and our work with tamariki, we reference Sir Mason Durie’s Te Whare Tapa Whā as a concept to build the concept of wellbeing and health.
The Te Whare Tapa Whā model refers to a wharenui (or meeting house) to illustrate the four dimensions of wellbeing: taha tinana (physical health), taha hinengaro (mind), taha whānau (family) and taha wairua (the spiritual dimension). With four walls, the wharenui is a symbol of these four dimensions.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This school teaches you literally nothing and I hadn’t learnt a single thing in maths from year 6 to year 8.
It was good for the first 5-6 years but put your child in a different intermediate school because kelburn intermediate is a waste of two years and money.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Year 1 -6 was alright but do not go for year 7-8. They taught me 0 science and everything revolves music & art, they do the bare minimum p.e. This school doesn’t prepare you well for college at all but it’s ok for early years.
