About Muritai School

Muritai School first opened its doors on 17th March 1897, and six years later there were 32 students enrolled at the school. Today, there are more than 400 students, some of whom have parents and grandparents who learned to read and write in the same buildings and ran races on the same school field.

Next year, Muritai School will celebrate 125 years in the heart of the Eastbourne community. It also marks 65 years since the two storey classroom block was opened, and 25 years since the Centennial Wing was opened on Muritai Road for the senior students. The 2022 celebrations will be a chance for students past and present to look around the school, see what has changed and what has stayed the same, and perhaps have a glimpse of what the future might hold.  “We’re really excited to be welcoming our Muritai community including past, present and possibly future Muritai learners and friends.  Come and join us at Muritai for our celebrations in 2022!” Bec Power, Principal.

The 125th birthday celebrations will run over two days from April 8-9th.The celebrations will showcase current students' new learning around their past, present and future, assemblies will be conducted, tours of the school will occur, and a cocktail party will be held on the Friday night.

Learning support was really poor here, they didn't help and the senco was horrible. I'm getting way more help now at college and doing heaps better with my learning.

I don't know how the school is now, but when I went there from 2005-2012 I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, pretty sure all the good teacher's are gone though...

Still teaching kids to guess the word from the pictures at this school...unbelievable! Send you kids to Wellesley where they actually teach them how to read.

Very poor teaching, not inclusive. Our girl really struggled with reading and writing but they never did anything to help. Turns out she has dyslexia. Way more help in year 9 at high school than she ever got at Muritai.
