Wow, what a spot. We chose the beach just down off Steep Street for our Waitangi celebrations, and it was totally worth it. The kids had a ball in the safe swimming space on the nice little beach. The water was gorgeous and clear. Plenty of lovely spots under trees to set your place with your seats, towels and picnic food. Next visit we much remember our water toys (shovels, water guns, bogey boards and blow up boats) and bring lots more sunblock. Can't wait to go back. My only negative was how dissapointed I was to see so many people with dogs at a beach that clearly said NO DOGS "immediate $1000 fine", yet I didn't see anyone be responsible when they saw the sign, or anyone giving out these so called "immediate" $1000 fine.

Beautiful spot for a swim, kayak, walk, or to chill out. The lake is great for water sports. Sailing can be a bit tricky as the wind bounces off the hills. Good boat ramps at acacia Bay. Friendly locals.
