About Maori Arts Gallery

Bill and Anne Rawiri are owners of the Māori Arts Gallery, a Maori-owned family-run business situated on the picturesque waterfront of Wellington harbour, in New Zealand.
Bill is a skilled bone carver descended from the Ngāpuhi tribe while Anne, who weaves and makes korowai (Māori cloaks), descends from Ngāti Whātua and Te Rarawa tribes.
What started as a hobby quickly became a business for Bill and Anne when they began selling taonga (treasures) at local markets and from a small shop attached to their home. this continued for over 20 years before opening the harbourside gallery. Satisfied customers to date include a US President and a Pope!
Both Bill and Anne are extremely proud of their rich Maori culture and are committed to promoting traditional Māori arts and crafts by supporting local artists and providing authentic local products.

I asked for some advice about a broken ponamu and they were amazing! I would highly recommend. Their shop has some amazing items and they are authentic. Thankyou for your kindness and sage advice.

Thank you for being so helpful and gentle replacing the cord on my necklace when I came in this morning. Your store is beautiful and your heart is clearly just as beautiful and strong. He hono tangata e kore e motu; kāpā he taura waka e motu.

The knot on my pounamu string needed replacing and the owners here were so gracious and quick in fixing it. The work was done well, on the spot, and for almost no cost. I'm certain they're not primarily in the business of repairing necklaces but I'm really grateful to them for doing so for me. Strongly advise stopping into their store and seeing their beautiful works, whether it's jewelry or art.

I went in today to replace my partners waxed chord on her ponumu which shes had multiple issues with founding a chord to fit the hole, they looked at it and within five minutes had replaced the chord while Giving me knowledge about this ponamu, which my partner didnt know as she recieved this as a baby, the customer service was amazing, the vibe in the shop was great and overall the pieces were beautiful, I’m hoping to go back and look at these amazing pieces

The most beautiful pieces, created by NZ artists, from sustainably and ethically sourced materials. Not a touristy 'trinket' in sight - every piece has been lovingly crafted and is waiting for you to give it a home :)

Brilliant customer service, knowledge, and unbelievable value for money. My partner brought my piece in to get a replacement cord and for a fraction of the cost of buying a cord online, they customised the cord to perfectly fit my piece. The person that put the cord on was able to give my partner information about my pounamu that I didn’t know as I was given it when I was born. Thank you very much - from the person with the pīpīwharauroa pounamu ☺️
