Mavis & Co - Hamilton East
Home - MAVIS & Co - Mavis.co.nz
It all started at the local farmers market, with a love of making bread and Danish pastries, Mavis was born!
As demand started to grow, the Hamilton and Cambridge Farmers markets became the perfect avenue to spread the good word. Hand crafted and made with love, Mavis goods soon became a sought after commodity for those with a craving for delicious treats just like Grandma used to make.
Mavis was a very clever woman who used to treat her grandchildren with an assortment of tasty treats, from three course breakfasts to delicious morning teas, lunches and afternoon sweets.
Initially Mavis rented kitchen space from a local church and then in June 2010. Due to a growing demand, the Mavis kitchen in Hamilton East was opened.
Known for keeping it simple and delicious and having a love for all things creative and beautiful, Mavis inspired her Granddaughter to emulate and recreate from those childhood memories. Having Mavis as a grandmother, Mavis & Co seemed the most obvious and fitting name.
It seemed the weekend fix of Mavis treats wasn’t enough for her customers and they started to demand that Mavis supply them during the week, so in June 2011 the Mavis & Co cafΓ© in Hamilton East began.
Staying true to our small beginnings, you can still find Mavis at the Hamilton Farmers market on a Sunday morning, serving a delicious array of our signature sweets and pastries.

β β β β β Stopped in on Valentines day,
Honestly food was not great. First time I have seen eggs bene with cheese? My eggs were so overcooked, I asked for another two as they should be runny and the girl at the counter was very kind. The second ones were a bit runny but still overcooked for eggs bene. My partner had the omelette which was dry and bland. The cabinet food looked really nice, we had a berry cheesecake and frittata, the cheesecake was not very sweet but the frittata was nice.
Iced coffee with caramel was amazing, one of the nicest iced coffees we have ever had and the mocha was great as well.
Overall the front of house staff were really friendly and coffee was great but the food was really dissapointing.

β β β β β Brilliant little cafe, breakfasts are very tasty. Mavis & co do the best Christmas mince pies, you have to try one to believe it. Theyβre a little pricy though.

β β β β β Mavis & Co Rototuna coffee is a beautiful experience in a cup! Staff were AMAZING, food was somehow better (and super quick). Shoe string fries were perfection and staff were helpful when I had to ask a million questions. 10/10 experience, if I could rate it 6 stars I would

β β β β β What an awesome cafe. So unique and different from other cafes, but in a good way. Service was good. My coffee was strong and ok, but I wish it was hotter. I enjoyed my experience here, and will return. Keep up the good work everyone.

β β β β β Yummy food. New menu. Staff were great, food was excellent and good coffee too. We stop here quite regularly as the kids love their Whittakerβs hot chocolates. They change up their menu seasonally which means itβs easy to find something new and exciting. The cabinet is always stocked with delicious cakes, slices and cookies too.

β β β β β One of the best locales for breakfast in Hamilton. Mushrooms to die for! We had the King Breakfast, eggs Benedict, potato and leek soup and berry hot cakes for the little one. Exquisite and punchy flavors all around. Highly recommended for the whole family. Soothing, homely atmosphere and a friendly, dedicated staff.

β β β β β Summary: I won't be back to dine in, but if they do the calamari dish as take away then count me in!
My boss made a reservation for 12. The reservation ended up being for the wrong branch. We looked at the confirmation email together - it was really confusing and unclear. So, to be fair, the staff weren't expecting our large group.
Service: The food took 45min to start being served and the service was slow. By the time my meal was served, others had finished eating. This was the major downfall of my experience.
Meals: The calamari was cooked to perfection (I tried some of my workmates). My burger was huge, and pretty good. It was listed as "Fried Chicken" with no reference to a lot of curry powder in the coating. I like curry so it was fine for me, but came as a surprise compared to the menu so buyer beware. Waffle chips were really good! Watch out for coriander hidden in other dishes.
Ambiance: It was so hot at our outdoor table. There were plastic walls but outside of us rolling the whole thing up there was no breeze at all. It would be great on cooler days but don't sit out there in summer! The dΓ©cor is not to my taste, I would call it "shabby chic" - mismatched chairs and half painted tables. Just not my thing but each to their own.
3 stars from me, saved by the food.
