Grass far too long for football.

I also popped into another library branch at Highbury Ave. It was Te Patikitikiti branch of the Palmerston North Public Library. Very good staff who work there, to help with your library needs.

Went to football found broken glass bottles around the pitches. If you tale any kids teams around there have a good check around the area.

Good location in Highbury on the bus routes. The park backs onto Monrad Intermediate, with community Whānau Centre, Te Pātikitiki library, and spans across to Mariner Miniature Railway (that runs during summer months). There are two separate children's playgrounds, one by Te Pātikitiki, and the other closer to the river. A couple of picnic tables see frequent use, and dog walkers are fairly common. There are drinking fountains outside the library. If you're out for a quiet walk in the evening, there can be some spectacular sunsets here. The playing fields are a popular location for community events, regular children's sport competition, and casual training for all ages. It's unfortunate that due to lack of drainage, the fields sometimes suffer some flooding in winter months, meaning that sometimes events are cancelled. Parking is not easy during big events as the library carpark tends to fill up fast. It's worth noting that Council Bylaws now prohibit parking on the grass verge, as it was a recurring problem.
