Takaro Bjj/Mma was officially established in October of 2019, but this has been the life long dream of Head coach Corey Governor, who's aim is to bring an affordable and experienced level of Health and well being to the Lower Socio economic communities of Palmerston North. Corey has grown and spent most of his life in and around the area and has seen the great need his work could do to benefit the community
"My goal is to teach our kids respect, discipline, resilience, self belief and confidence through BJJ/MMA. It gives the necessary skills that may impact in their every day life. For Adults and Teens It helps with Mental health, anxiety and insecurity issues. my aim is to motivate others and hope for a positive impact on the community and to also provide Members a safe secure place to train and workout".
Corey also coaches alongside his Mother Raeleen (Razor) Simeon, who has the accolade of oldest current competing female in MMA. Razor brings a different dynamic to the club and has a huge impact on the young wahine. She alongside Coreys partner Rawi and their 3 children are his greatest supporters.
