Based in beautiful Mount Maunganui, we offer surf courses for beginners and improvers in a safe, fun and relaxed atmosphere. We take great pride in personalising all our surf courses and endeavour to provide some of the smallest Instructor:Student ratios of any surf school in the area.
At Mount Maunganui Surf Academy we teach surfing and surfing only. This means we can concentrate on teaching to the best level possible and guarantee you will find the whole experience a life changing event! Our coaches are specialist Surf Coaches and qualified to the highest level.

Andy is very friendly, helpful and absolutely fair, he would never sell you a surf lesson or equipment, when he thinks the weather is not good for a surf or even dangerous. Great surfboards and wetsuits with a good quality, prices are very good and fair.
Very professional, highly recommended surf school.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We got the training from Ben the instructor and he is a really good instructor who is really knowledgeable about surfing and knows the key advices for a newbie. They are very passionate about surfing and not after money. The owner Andy was a very nice person who gave us a good package and explained that the waves are low and might not be good enough beforehand and we can decide to not to continue after the training started. But eventually we had a really good training and we could recommend this place to anyone who look for a good service. Thanks Andy and team.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I did the beginner group surf lesson and had a great time - Victor was a great teacher and had us up and riding waves in no time. Owner Andy was very friendly and honest, and has very reasonable prices for lessons and rentals. We had such a good time we returned the next day to rent boards and wetsuits to do a bit of surfing on our own. Would definitely recommend!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Was initially going to sign up for a lesson from another surf school on the beach, but it was a busy day and everyone was fully booked. The owner of mount surf academy was really nice and phoned one of his instructors who was off for the day to see if she could give us a lesson as we were only in town for the day. We got a lesson at a reasonable price, and had a really cool instructor named Charlie. She taught us a lot and made sure we had tons of time to actually be in the water on our own.
Could not recommend this company more, thanks again and if we’re ever at the mount again we will be back to hire some boards!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had an excellent experience with Tom today. 2 early 40s adults and an 8 year old with minimal surfing experience. We had a great time and we were standing up in no time.
We really appreciated how Tom interacted with our son. Great enthusiasm and manor!

By the end of the lesson we were both able to catch waves independently, and Tom made the whole experience so fun. Will be going back again for another lesson to progress further. Thank you so much!
