Since then Nada Bakery has established itself as one of New Zealand's foremost bakeries being crowned Baker of the Year three times and runner-up several more and regularly wins accolades for its pies and other products. Bakers from around the world visit us and we visit them learning from each other and bringing international flavours to our Wellington bakery and cafe.
At the age of 16, Peter Gray started work in a small village bakery and decided he wanted to start his own business before he was 21. From there, via an apprenticeship at Monette Cakes in Porirua, and time abroad Peter fulfilled his dream of opening his own bakery and Nada Bakery was founded in 1975 in Haitaitai. By the 1980s there were eight retail stores across Wellington before 1982 saw a centralisation to the Johnsonville store - when we were the only food outlet in Johnsonville.
Since then Nada Bakery has established itself as one of New Zealand's foremost bakeries being crowned Baker of the Year three times and runner-up several more and regularly wins accolades for its pies and other products. Bakers from around the world visit us and we visit them learning from each other and bringing international flavours to our Wellington bakery and cafe.Nada Bakery has always been a family business with Peter's wife Judith heavily involved and their three children including son Michael began baking at a young age. So when Peter sadly passed away in 2005 it made perfect sense for Judith and Michael to take over the business. In 2010, they expanded to Tawa opening a new bakery and cafe where customers could dine in on the amazing baked goods and great coffee and, in 2017, opened The Bakery Basket an online branch with delivery across New Zealand.
We are lucky to be supported by a long serving great team of staff from the many young people who pass through our business to our long-serving staff members some of whom have been with us for more than 20 years.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We always stop by when driving through Tawa from Wellington. From my experiences, their pies and sourdough are delicious, and the customer service is nothing short of amazing.
A huge thanks to Michael and the Nada team for looking after us, in person, and during lockdown. We look forward to visiting again when we are in the area.

However a pet complaint is one has to beg for a box if buying multiple items one would think that a high class bakery would know stuffing Creamy cakes into brown paper bags equals a mess by the time , one gets them home .
Do not go there near closing time which seems early, the body language tells that one is not welcome .
The wobbly table does little to assure one that anyone actually cares about clients .

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The BEST gluten free bread, and so good to see a variety of freshly baked gluten free products. The bread is so soft and tasty, and took me back to the days when I could enjoy gluten. Cheese loaf brought tears of joy. And delivery was great - well packed and turned up as promised. Thanks for bringing delicious locally made happiness tp my day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fabulous pies, pastries and bread. Really tasty just like home made but better as they deliver. Great customer service and will continue to support this great local bakery. If you are looking for delicious pies I highly recommend you buy any of their Pork Belly, Chicken or Mince pies. You won't be disappointed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nada Bakery do the BEST cakes!! I had my son's birthday coming up so emailed through a photo of what I wanted and how I wanted it to look. Told them what day and time I needed it. There was no problem! Cake looked just like the photo I sent through. It was fresh and tasted amazing. All the guests raved about it. I will definitely be placing more cake orders through them! Thank you Team for your awesome job and great customer service! :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice, airey cafe-bakery with delicious selection of pastries, sponges and other food to blow your diet plan to smithereens. Also offered are award-winning pies, and specialty breads. There is seating inside and outside (uncovered) with parking on the street.
Nada is renowned for cakes customized to individual preferences and over several decades, they have made birthday cakes and Christening cakes for our family.
Highly recommended.
