I love this beach for its views of the bay. Too dangerous to swim but wonderful to wile the day away on.

The walk along the beach is really relaxing. We love to go to the pier and stand over the splashing waves and feel the breeze.

The Napier water front 'promenade' is long and a great walk. Beach is mostly pebbly and quite steep in places, but once out of the town center, great to let your dog have run. Huge grassy areas, plenty of parking and limited over night van spots...the best are popular so go early. The Ahuriri (spelling?) area has a cool beachy vibe, with cafes etc. Overall really liked it, and the water front development is an ongoing asset for Napier.

It was a rather unique beach with black pebbles as the "sand". It is also strangely scary to know that the sea you are staring out into is directly connected to the South Pole with no land in between. Threw a wine bottle with written love letters and hopes for my future into the sea. Here's to hoping it becames a floating time capsule!

The beach is a pebble beach rather than a sand beach. I did go in winter and it was raining the whole time so it wasn't the best place to be. It is a nice area to walk around though, lots of things to do nearby. There is also quite a nice lookout area on the city end of the beach, it heads out towards the water almost like a pier.

This would have to be one of the best waterfront parks in NZ along Marine Parade. There is art, great pathways for walking/cycling/roller blading etc. There are lots of toilets. Also, from memory there is: a public swimming baths, NZ national aquarium, gardens, skate park, playground, kids bike area, pump track. One thing not recommended is swimming in the sea. It is NOT a safe swimming beach. Enjoy

This is a wild and unpredictable beach, so treat it with the respect it deserves - admire the power of the surf from a safe distance, but don't go into the water. There are great opportunities for beachcombing after high tide.

Tranquil sounds of the big waves hitting the shore. Some days are good and some days a dumpers. We even meet one of the local lifeguards who informed us to stay clear of the water as it has a very unpredictable undertow. Great to see they are out and looking after us.
