Typical i-site. Helpful staff. Good selection of brochures. Adjoining DOC info site is informative, especially if doing one of their walks. Can buy possum traps here. Toilets. Good cafe next door.

IT problem caused them to close up, surely their staff could've maintained some level of service to the public.... disappointing!

My wife and I stopped in (late March) as we were looking for some local information and have always found the i-site to be a good source to add to what I have already researched. Firstly the building - signage and entrance was a little obscured by some works going on. Inside there was a lot of information on the area in terms of tracks into the Tasman district, maps, tours etc. Not what we were after, but is a big draw for the area so would no doubt have been helpful for those looking for info on the multi day tracks and DoC info. The staff - a bit of a low point for us and unusual in our experience fo i-Site's. Christine seemed to be the one working the day we went, and we overheard some of the conversation with the lady customer before us as we were looking at the same info (Brook Waimarama Sanctuary). This lady had tried to find the entrance the day before and thought the signage a little lacking (entry is apparently through a campground). Christine is apparently a volunteer and works/ed there so knew it well, but was in my view a little condescending in her approach to both her and ourselves with some reasonable questions we posed. As a tourist (not a local) we went seeking info, but in the end left with little. Could have been an off day (we all have them) as others have left more higher rated reviews.

The i-site is ok but the person working at the DOC counter interrupted me 3 times when I was saying "I'll come back when the i-site is open" to crankily say "the i-site doesn't open till 10". I don't think customer service is his calling!

Just arrived in the region wanting to move here. Went for a scroll to discover Nelson and I thought I'll go to the i site first. Great building with good selection of infos that you can take with you. But the lady there... I asked her basic tourist questions like what's a must do and she almost rolled her eyes didn't really say much but with an attitude that after looking at the brochures around I should know. I just turned around wished her a good day and to enjoy her work! Don't work there if you don't like ignorant tourists or new arrivants asking where to go and what to do
