Welcome back. I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year break and enjoyed the quality time with your tamariki.

Our team is feeling refreshed and ready to go for the 2022 year and can’t wait to welcome everyone back onsite.

School commences Thursday the 3rd February at 9am. As annouced last year the BOT have kindly agreed to fund stationary for 2022. On Wednesday when you come in to meet your childs class room teacher your childs stationary will be available, if you wish to take it home to label/cover. 

In regard to COVID-19 we have moved fully into the new traffic light framework for all our school and kura activities and events this year. You will be familiar with all the health measures we will have in place and it is good to know that at Red setting, we are able to support everyone learning onsite.

Due to the current red light setting we will not be holding a powhiri. Each class will do their own whakatau to welcome new students.

We are currently working through the covid guidelines, on a daily basis ,but for now this is what is in place at NSS until we hear otherwise:

All year 3-8 students and staff will be required to wear a mask.

All parents who come onto the school site need to wear a mask and scan the tracer on the gate.

We will continue with early finish, 2.45pm, for our Year 1-4 students and their siblings.

Please wait outside the gates to pick your children up. Please do not enter the school grounds unless it is absolutely necessary.

There will be no gatherings such as assemblies until further notice.

Keep your child home if they are unwell. Get tested.

We have all seen the very large numbers of cases overseas and we will very likely see much larger numbers of cases in Aotearoa than we have previously experienced in the last two years. While Omicron is more transmissible than previous strains, most people who get COVID-19 will have a mild to moderate illness and will fully recover in their own home.

However, some of our community who are immune compromised, are ill or have other vulnerabilities, even when they are fully vaccinated, could be more affected by Omicron. So, we all need to continue to play our part to minimise the spread of the virus.

Please do not forget to make a time on Wednesday February 2nd to meet with your childs teacher. Any questions you may have could be brought up at this interview. If you are not on the Skool Loop app please email your teacher or ring the school office to book an appointment. 

While this might all feel a little overwhelming at times, we know that all these measures will help our children return to school, reconnect with whānau and friends and do what they enjoy.
