β β β β β The cheapest petrol station on the road between Queenstown and Milford Sound. Make sure you stop here on your roadtrip to Milford. No toilets and no services are here. You pay by card only.

β β β β β WARNING: Does not accept most major US credit cards or debit cards. We tried cards from six different banks and none worked. Calling their payment hotline was an even bigger waste of time. The person I spoke to sounded catatonic. Retaining consciousness seemed a Herculean struggle for him, let alone troubleshooting card payments over the phone.

β β β β β DON'T USE NPD especially their UNMANNED SITES. The company puts a NZ$150 bond against your credit card for each transaction regardless of the amount purchased. This is only cleared in 3-5 business days.
I was travelling in South Island and have never experienced such a crazy scam payment idea. So effectively they reduced my available credit by $300 when the actual fuel purchased was $72 total for 2 transactions.
I was told this is an industry standard practice, but when asking several friends and family who have travelled NZ extensively, they said this sounds illegal.
There was a complete don't care attitude from the call centre staff.

β β β β β DO NOT USE THIS PETROL STATION! It may look cheap however they scam you more money than you even fill your car up with, I put $60 in my car and looked on my bank to see that they had charged me $150, absolutely ridiculous. When contacted they provide weak excuses about the extra being a βsecurity bondβ that theyβll give you back in 5 business days which sounds completely illegal. Disgusting for those who are just trying to travel around and being scammed.

Do remember to put your credit card into the central pay machine and choose how much petrol you want from which pump first, then pump petrol, then put your card into the machine again to get the receipt. Or you can go to the Challenge petrol station across the road and the friendly attendant there will do everything for you :)
