Our kindergarten has been serving the community for over 60 years, offering quality education for children aged 2 1/2 - 5 years old.
About One Tree Hill Kindergarten
At One Tree Hill Community Kindergarten our culture embodies the spirit of whanaungataanga: we value strong parent partnerships, encouraging families to share their unique culture and interests. We aspire to cultivate a sense of belonging between teachers, children and whanau (families), providing a calm, nurturing and homely environment.
We endeavour to provide an environment where children develop a love of learning and exploration: children are encouraged to develop resilience through providing supportive and challenging experiences. We support children to set their own tasks and goals, fostering their disposition to be self directed learners and contribute to each others learning (ako). We foster children’s self confidence and self esteem by celebrating achievements during each child’s individual learning journey.
We acknowledge the importance of the Treaty of Waitangi and the diversity of our multicultural community. We model respect for others and the environment around us, instilling the values of manaakitanga (caring/hospitality). We celebrate children’s individuality and creativity to build a sense of self worth and empowerment.
Our Curriculum
At our Kindergarten our curriculum reflects the framework of Te Whariki; the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum.
We ensure we regularly provide a wide range of experiences, children are able to choose where they will participate. These learning opportunities support children to set their own tasks and goals. This fosters their disposition to be a self directed learner.
As we notice, recognise and respond to children's learning and interests these leads to co-construction between children and teachers. Much of our planning is spontaneous to capture the 'teachable moments'. We are flexible and encourage children to learn using their curiosity and enthusiasm, and to challenge themselves further.

The teachers have been very welcoming and the indoor and outdoor space is incredible! They are safety conscious yet still give the kids ample opportunity to explore and challenge themselves in different ways. I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful kindy.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is an outstanding kindergarten. Two of my four children have graduated One Tree Hill Kindergarten and I cannot speak more highly of this place for pre-schoolers to grow and learn. The teaching staff has remained consistent for years and years which speaks to how happy the staff are. This leads to happy children who feel safe and cared for. The staff are well trained, allow the kids room to play whilst also seeking to create learning opportunities. The large outdoor space is incredible and rare. If you want your children to grow in confidence, be helped with essential pre-schooler skills alongside settled/experienced teachers this is an excellent choice.
