Expressive Arts Therapy

Commences Tuesday 4 May 2022

Tutor Emilia Rubio: Dance Movement Therapist (ADTA) Diploma in Expressive Art Therapy (TAE)
Professional Contemporary Dancer and Performer

Cost: $130 for 10 weeks

This class is uses expressive arts therapy as a means for people to experiment with multi-disciplinary arts in a therapeutic context.

It explores how the arts can inspire and uplift during exceptional times, such as those we find ourselves in now. It works through feelings of anxiety and stress and looks at how we can gain a sense of self and of community through the language of expressive arts therapy.

We will interplay between the physical body, cognition, imagination, emotions and spirit. Participants will be invited to experiment and to trust the therapeutic process and environment.

The programme is suitable for all ages and will suit people who would like to:

• Experience a process through Expressive Arts Therapy
• Cultivate inspiration and spontaneity
• Express themselves creatively through dance, movement, visual art forms
• Learn how engaging with creativity can promote feelings of health and well-being and engage issues of stress and anxiety
• Expand and discover new abilities
• Collaborate in a therapeutic group experience

Dance/Movement Therapy

Cost: $100 for 10 weeks

In this class we use the language of movement to immerse ourselves in a dance experience, giving over to sensation, feeling, image and thought.

We explore our movements from breathing though to open improvisation.

Relax, unwind, de-stress, give yourself over to dance and movement in a group facilitated by an experienced dance therapist who can use therapeutic techniques to improve your health and well-being.

Feel comfortable in your own body

Suitable for ages – no dance experience required.

Poetry, Writing and Performance

Commences Friday 7 May 2021

Time: 1.00 to 3.00pm

Venue: Mapura Studios, Fowlds Park, Rocky Nook Ave, Mt Albert

Tutor Daniel Larsen-Barr BA (English)
Daniel has been holding creating writing groups in Auckland for over a decade. He has performed around the country and overseas. His classes explore how to be inspired by other texts while making work that is uniquely your own.

Cost: $50 for 10 weeks

Poetry, writing and performance aims to inspire people to express themselves and to convey their thoughts and emotions through writing. By discussing themes, structures and vocabulary of sample poems, we can apply those features within our own works.

Each participant will be encouraged to produce a short composition for performance to the group.

There may be opportunities for public performance later.

People who have never written poetry before can be encouraged to use it as a form of self-expression and more experienced writers will be encouraged to write more.

A wide range of genres, fields, movements and the origins and history of words will be explored.

No experience is required and we welcome people of all abilities.
