★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had to rent a car at the last minute after 6PM. Thanks to James we didn't have any problem with it, he helped us and also offers us to follow him to go back in our place. When we drop off the car, same thing, very kind staff. Also thank you to the German girl who lift us to the airport ! Very nice customer experience, don't hesitate to rent a car at this place with an amazing staff !!!!

Staff are nice but unfortunately the car was not and the company doesn't appear to care about it's customers. Lights on the dash came on randomly, the heating struggled to adequately warm the car and the defoggers struggled to clear the windows even on full blast. Worst of all there were a number of tears in the rubber sealing around the boot so any time you hit 60kph it would start emitting a loud squealing noise like a kettle boiling. Pretty nerve-wracking after a few hours. Called to see if they could switch the car but they had no replacements and nothing the staff could do.
Ended up being forced to end our trip and return the car 4 days early due to the government mandated lockdown. Enquired about a refund for the unused days but this was met with a hard no. No offer of using the remaining days at a later date either. All in all a pretty sub-par experience. I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I'll stick with a more reputable company and recommend others avoid these guys as well.
Shout out to the staff who were friendly and tried their best even though they were unable to do anything due to company policy.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Didn't realise we were renting a car (back in July) with a back seat window that could not be rolled down (until we wanted to take some photos) and a bumper that was falling off (constant rattling sound followed us through our journey). There were no other 4WD cars available for replacement. Also, from the time we called for our pick up at the airport to us actually taking possession of the car took almost 3 hours !!!. In our decades of car rental in NZ, never has there been such a long wait and process. Had to scrap the first item off our itinerary which was a huge disappointment. On the way back there was a 1/2 hour wait to get us back to the airport in spite of us alerting them of our schedule. Do very much regret booking with NZ rent a car CHC (ex Orange car rental as address is the same) due to the poor quality of the car and much of our precious time wasted.
