I come to school to get a good job not to win a kanga shield or be in the X factor

I am someone that has been at OJC since nearly the beginning, and since I have been there, I was able to see the school grow, through values, care and with the student and teacher quantity, reaching over 800 students this year. Reading some of the reviews or seeing how some people rated the school, if people decide to rate the school a one or two star, that's fine because it's their opinion. But here is my opinion... To me, I love the school generally mainly because the learning system is so innovative. It's not like those traditional systems where it's like "get your textbooks and turn to page 35" (as my MAC Gerrie used to say). And I also love how teachers allow students to have a choice on what they want to learn, while still keeping in mind that they still have to teach their student the basics in order to have that right set of mind for the future. Another thing I love is the fact that when I first entered the school as a little yr 7, people were kind and they were welcoming which allowed me to adjust to the system very easily, because to me, I can adjust to a new environment if people are willing to let me in. My only piece of feedback I can give the school is if they had science, that would be even better because I'm doing science at my current school and I will say that I'm doing OK, but I still need some help, plus I think that OJC would be passionate to do some science projects. And finally, this is to the Principle, Luke Sumich: Thank you for looking out for me and looking out for the students to make sure that nothing goes too out of hand. Thank you for teaching me new ways to combine my learning, you and the OJC team introduced to me new ways I can teach myself and teach others about transdisciplinary learning. Thank you for letting the students know that you care for them, because I speak from the student’s perspective that you are such a compassionate and caring person, and you don’t let small things stop you from keeping in mind that you want the best for the students that are being taught at OJC. And my final thank you is… Thank you for being the principle at this very new and exciting school.

{MUST READ}. The most honest review, from a student, that “studied” here for 3 years. The learning here is absolute rubbish. No exams, no credits, and besides that, the school doesn't even teach science! Science is a really important subject that should be taught, this school believes that science should not be taught. The two subjects they do teach are mathematics and English. However, they do a really poor job at it. Did the school even think about the students' futures? You could go to any student here and ask what an ion is and they would be clueless! Teachers do not care if students do good or bad in school. Teachers let students play games on their iPads during class. This school hires the most inexperienced and unprofessional teachers who have no idea what they are doing. My friend got physically harassed in this school while he was at a camp, (the teachers name was Jan Ubels). He says a teacher dashed towards the side of him and right hooked him to the ground. The principal was informed about this and even talked to the student about this. The crazy thing was that the teacher remained to teach in the school and wasn’t even fired. This school does badges instead of exams. For each badge, there is a curriculum where the student needs to show that they have achieved by using pictures or videos. Most of the time students would use the most random pictures and find a way to link it to the criteria, 90% of the time students would fool the teachers because 1) they are clueless and 2) they don’t care. This proves how unprofessional they are. At the start of every day, you spend 90 minutes in the Mac, "Mentor Advisor Coach", which is a class of 20. In this class you do nothing. It's a waste of time, I would usually put some headphones on to burn time. Instead of wasting an hour and a half in Mac, we could be doing science instead. Mac is supposed to help with social skills, but in my point of view, it's a waste of time. We learnt no content knowledge in school. Students here are brainless! Cafeteria food is a total scam here. The cafeteria lady purchases 250ml drinks from Pak n Save for 0.87c and sells them for $2.50. Small brownies would cost $2.50, sausages would cost $4.50. If you want food, maybe try going to Pak n Save, BP or McDonald’s for a cheaper option, it’s a 1min walk. This school can help you be braver in large crowds but besides that, this school would be considered as a preschool/kindergarten, because all you do is muck around. My experience here was awful, there would be fights every week. I seriously wasted three whole years here while begging my parents to move me to another school every single day, just imagine! If you ever think about sending your child here, think again. If you want your child to be successful and smart, I would recommend sending them to another school, trust me.

As a foundation student who was enrolled at this school for two years, I can say that this school is a total waste of investment. The two years I've spent here brought me nothing in academic achievement or extra-curricular. The school has very modern facilities with great opportunity to grow students into who they want to be but this school puts it all into waste. The system they use here is absolute rubbish, doesn't teach us anything. According to contacts who've spent all their intermediate years at this school have told me that sadly since I left the school has not improved and has put them (including myself) behind in academic growth. The learning coaches let the students muck about on their iPads all day and would never care if they showed up to class. The potential of this school is so incredibly high but due to the system they follow it incredibly fails. One of the worst schools in Auckland. The Primary School next to it on the other hand is very good, I learnt more there than I did at this place. If you want your child to develop and give them a decent education, Ormiston Junior College is NOT the place.

After 2 years of my journey at OJC, I’d like to say this is probably my best school experience ever. I graduated from an Intermediate school in 2020 and came to OJC starting as a Year 9 in 2021, I was completely lost and thought that this school was gonna be similar to my experience in Intermediate, which was the worst… I love OJC mainly because it's a school like no other. It’s not a school where we feel bored every minute, it's not a school where once we get to class the teacher starts with “I’m not in a good mood today” or starts with “let's start with maths” every morning. This school actually excites me every morning, since my learning is literally MY learning, letting me learn what I want to learn. (if that makes sense) You will get a MAC Coach that you will be with throughout your OJC journey. They try to give you a coach that fit/matches your personality, interests & talents so you can have a more comfortable and enjoyable experience. This school allows me to implement my talents into actual use in my learning. Such as introducing my talent of video editing to one of the coaches (Subash), and now I am editing most video content that is put out online from the school. They let us choose our literacy (reading & writing) creations, our ‘Whanau Ora’ (PE) classes depending on our interests, and give us a selection of ‘TAIP’ (Transdiciplinary, Authentic, Inquiry, Projects), giving us a ‘Personalised Learning’ experience- which I love the most. They give us a high amount of freedom so we can be independent. It’s not that they don't care, they are trying to give you an experience you will probably not have in other schools. A lot of students think this is a horrible system, is because they take advantage of the freedom given, slack off & don't learn anything- thats why they complain. To those who are enrolling or currently a learner at OJC: Don’t take your freedom for granted and take advantage of them. This is your opportunity to grow, learn more about yourself and take your talents/passions to the next level. This school is unlike many traditional schools out there so try your hardest. There are many opportunities out there for you so dont ignore them- youll regret it one day. Thank you to the Learners, Staff & most importantly, my MAC Coach Rowan, for making this experience the best possible.

horrible. the school has horrible education and strict rules about eating and where to go! there is a nearby mcdonalds and the kids arent even aloud there! considering the fact that the school teaches the learners how to be INDEPENDENT but when they do, the learners get in trouble. they arent even aloud to stand up for theirself when in trouble. the classes like literacy and numeracy dont even teach anything at all. all they do for math is give the students some work slides and wont even explain how to do whatever is on the slide. for literacy, they dont even learn anything they just give the students a topic to write about each term. i think for maths the teachers for it should actually teach the learners on whatever theyre stuck on. for literacy, the teachers for it should teach the kids about punctuation and story ways and the school expects the kids to learn something?!? this school also has about 3 years in it. year 7-10. regular intermediate schools only have 2 years which is year 7-8. this school also has weird subjects such as taip, whanao ora and mac? like what do you learn in those considering the fact they barley learn anything in literacy/math. 0/5 dont enroll your kids even the ormiston primary has better education.

The school here is just play you won’t learn unless your lucky and have gotten a experienced teacher who can actually teach, and help. Some of the teachers will assign you work without no explanation on how to do the work. This school does not prepare you for any senior college The students there are quite nice since there mainly kids 7-8 but if your unlucky and walk across a group of kids they could pick on you
