About Otari-Wilton's Bush

TK Garden

Truby King had a knack for gardening. The collections of pines, roses, rhododendrons, and azaleas were planted in the 1920s by Sir Truby King himself, with some still flourishing today. You can still find pines and macrocarpas planted by Truby King around the estate. Beautiful cherry trees line the drive around the house.

Wellington City Council is working towards restoring the eclectic planting style of the original garden.

What a little gem in the outskirts of Wellington, great for the kids, we watched the big eels in the stream for ages and my elderly dad could walk all the tracks. Lovely bush and really well set out from alpine to coastal areas of NZ native Bush plants.

Great place to take the dog for a bush walk on the lead. There's a nice picnic area just out of the way from the main area that's nice and quiet and gets a good bit of sunshine. Some excellent little walks!

Super enjoyable walk, round track is very manageable. Dogs allowed on lead. Even a barbeque area.

For trail beginner, Otari-Wilton's red line was really crunching. Prepare your drink, take it easy when climbing up the Chartwell Drive spot. Sunshine not aplenty as vegetation covers it up. Worth to try

Nice botanical gardens + choice of walking tracks for all types. Can hear and see lots of Kaka, Parakeet, Tui, Kareru, Fan tail and birds. Purple loop amd red trail is great hiking trail in the bush. Viewing deck is great for calm bird sounds listening experience. 20 min to 4 hour options.

Beautiful place, can get pretty busy on weekends. Lovely picnic spot complete with BBQ. Eels to spot and an 800 year old Rimu to visit.

Beautiful Park. Lovely sounds of native birds and trickling water. Great spot for a picnic. Don't forget your cardigan. It gets chilly under the tree cover.
