★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you happen to be in Oxford then it is well worth the visit. The place illustrates local history very well. There are many things that are absolutely fascinating. The place is much bigger than you expect. The volunteer staff were very friendly and helpful.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great museum. Loved the model of old Oxford with the train track. And the Hansom cab.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lots of items on display of early colonial history of the area. Older Cantabrians will recognise many items from their childhood, things their grandparents would have owned. Some NZ favourites and some items from Britain. A room at the end has a good display of farming machinery. There are clean toilets and ample off street parking. The museum is completely accessible with ramps and accessible toilet. I enjoyed the range of items on display of domestic life in early settler times.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A rural museum of two halves; the newer section is great, with a lot of information, well laid-out exhibits, and an 'immersive' bush scene on entry. The older part is a little cluttered, dated, and reminiscent of any rural museum that hasn't been touched in half a century - not very interactive, and not very child (or adult) friendly. The Māori section is - disappointingly for an area with real history - relegated to a single dusty box and an inaccurate painting in the corner, with no real explanations as to either.
