About Palm Prints/Artists at Work Gallery
Palm Prints is an independent art studio based in Raglan, New Zealand. This beautiful seaside environment inspires artists Jane Galloway and Stuart Mackenzie to spend most of their time involved in art making.
The two originally began Palm Prints in 2003, producing photographic greeting cards. Live Wires discovered their work soon after and offered to take over printing and distribution. This decade-long relationship with the company has allowed Jane and Stuart to focus on their art print design while many of these images are still distributed as cards and calendars.
Today, Palm Prints has evolved from producing photographic prints to include a range of digital, hand-drawn and painted images produced by Jane. Her passion for the natural world and for art and design history can be seen in all her work.

Artist Julian Godfery is Jane’s son. He has his own unique view of the world which can be seen in his drawings which involve intense pattern-making of images in either abstract or naïve styles. His representational drawings with their simple subjects have moved people to tears at times as they convey a true purity of spirit. Julian would love to be a full-time artist. His dream is to win the IHC Art Awards, as he has been a finalist several times.

I paint from my home based studio in Raglan.
I attended Central St Martins School of Art and Design in London before settling in New Zealand. I have exhibited throughout the country since I arrived in 1997.
My paintings are a comment on the intricate, intense, complex and sometimes wonderful nature of being human – the epic story of organized chaos that is our lives.
Everyday my experience of that particular day is my inspiration, Consciously being child like, trying to see without any knowing is my goal. I try to be aware of and record interactions that will later be scribbled into my sketch book. Sometimes it can be as simple as an overheard snippet of a strangers conversation, sometimes an image that seems to pause in front of me. I don't have to think of ideas as images are constantly forming. It's the filtering process I have to work on the most. Observing and trying to catch an image before it morphs into another one is very satisfying. I like to play with the characters and the paint. My wish is to create little worlds and stories that may be personal at the time but can also resonate with the people that are viewing my work.
I started The Monster Company in 2002, a partnership which supplies ceramic and mixed media pieces to galleries around New Zealand. I am also a founding member of Raglan’s JET collective. Both galleries give me a wonderful freedom to work on one piece at a time without the pressure of producing a whole show.
