About Quails Nest Eatery

One Burgess Hill has been owner/ operated since it’s opening in 2006. Our family run business has been developed from wild scrublands and farmland to the modern sanctuary it is today overlooking the Waiwhakaiho river valley.

Year round the native bush on the river bank with the rushing of the rapids below transports you to a new wilderness with all the comforts of home in all 16 of our apartments to choose from. Our little sliver of paradise is nestled further enough away from New Plymouth CBD to sooth anyone looking for an escape from the their busy lives. However at only a 5 minute drive into New Plymouth, the hype of our small city is not far away.

For those who are not looking to leave tranquility we also have our eatery opening in December 2020 for all of your culinary needs. As an extension to One Burgess Hill, the Quail’s Nest Eatery is the chic and cosy haven for a glass of wine while trying our seasonal menu infused with Taranaki flare.

At One Burgess Hill we are grateful for the surroundings we are captured within and for the opportunity to share our wonderland with you. While we offer a modern approach to accommodation close to the natural world we believe in letting mother nature showcase her beauty uninterrupted in our minimalist oasis.

If you have a special occasion or a larger event you are considering our apartments or River room function venue for, please send through your enquiry via our enquiry form or by phone.

A new experience for lunch and we enjoyed the tasty and well presented food. The staff were friendly and attentive. Most of all the decor and views added to a pleasant experience

Great place with lush views, delicious food made of local ingredients, stylish interior. Coffee and service are good too! This place is also suitable for functions or a a short staycation, as they have cabins and a motel attached to the restaurant. My family loves their breakfasts, serene and abundant.

Beautiful building rural views through abundant glass. Outdoor terrace. We had lunch booked for 1pm. Service was a little slow although the restaurant was not full. Key menu item was not available - "someone forgot to order the fish ?". Would still go again but be ready to prompt for water on the table drinks while you wait to order.

I had been following Quails nest since before it opened. My partner and I dined on the 1st Jan 2021 the day after it opened to the public for the first time. I fell in love with it in an instant and went back several times since that day as a customer. From the carefully and lovingly thought out design of the cafe/restaurant, the decor, the house plants , smiley and friendly staff, the stunning coffee and the beautiful food. Quails Nest will become a destination place that everyone must visit. It's one of a kind and sets itself apart from so many other places in and around the city. Even just a cuppa looking at those views over the valley of the Waiwhakaiho River. You just can't beat it. ❤️

Good ambiance and service, but wasn’t impressed with my meal. Ordered the Quail’s nest karaage chicken sandwich, it was presented well but the chicken was very dry and chewy. ?

We went for dinner, fabulous meal. Will be definitely going back. Great staff and good COVID-19 practices. Clean and tidy rest rooms. Good parking. We didn't wait long between meals. Yummy. Great view as well.

Have had breakfast here a few times and got to try their dinner for the first time last night, it was fantastic! So good I forgot to take photos! I had the eye fillet and my partner had the beef cheeks and they were both SO good. The atmosphere here is really cool with great views over the river. Highly recommend, if I lived in New Plymouth, I would take a weekend to stay at the hotel (One Burgess Hill) and go to the restaurant a couple times, would be a great staycation!

Absolutely gorgeous setting, up on the hill overlooking the river. We called in for brunch, and the food was delicious. I can't go past chicken waffles, and these did not disappoint! I can imagine the deck, with the amazing view would be an ideal spot for a beer on a summers afternoon. The staff were incredibly friendly, and they loved our dog.
