★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Poorly designed product, bad service and overpriced spare parts.
I have a Rinnai waterheater that has cost many thousands to keep running. The initial problem came about due to mosquitos getting sucked into the inlet. The heaters put out CO2, moisture and heat which attracts mosquitos, the little guys then get sucked into the inlet and block the fan and heat exchanger. The heater I have doesn't have a screen to prevent this.
The first serviceman that came out replaced the controller and the remote temperature controller in an effort to clear the mosquitos trapped in the fan. Cost over $1000, and his efforts failed to fix the problem. Have had servicemen out several times and the problem has been fixed by replacing the fan and heat exchanger but cost a bit over $3,000 in total.
The plastic exhaust part on the end of the flue has degraded now due to heat, Rinnai want $600 to replace this piece of plastic which should have been made of metal to start with. (And should have an internal screen)
Would not buy from Rinnai in the future.
***update*** the fully reconditioned water heater broke - again. Decided it was not economic to fix (these heaters are not made to enable servicing, once the heat exchanger becomes blocked they are a throwaway item). If repaired or replaced, the same thing is likely to happen again. Ended up buying a Vaillant heater. It was significantly more expensive than the Rinnai but they are a fully serviceable unit and it has much better build quality. The Vaillant worked out to be a similar price to the Rinnai if you include the repairs and servicing that went into keeping the Rinnai functioning.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bought Rinnai Electric water heater and about 1year worked ok, but after that got so many problems, its expensive than other makes, but on top of that had to spend on services and replacement parts, not recommend. Very bad customer service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Service team are very quick to respond within 24 hours and identified the issue on the spot. I dealt with them second time, both times my experience was great. I would trust these guys any day instead of my own plumbers for competence.
