★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I called today asking for a quote on having some specific work done on my vehicle. They told me that they won't discuss prices without looking at the vehicle. Even when I explained that I understood that the issue could very well be something else, that I just wanted a quote assuming it was this specific issue they would not relent. I just wanted to get a ballpark estimate of what it would cost, they refused to give me a quote. They wouldn't even give me a quote on labor for what is a very standard repair. This was in spite of the fact that their logic for not being able to give a quote was that parts can vary in cost depending on the specific engine (information I had provided). I called more than 10 mechanics today and this was the ONLY place that refused to give any sort of quote. I understand that I am not a mechanic and the issue could definitely be something else, but they should still be able to give a quote on the cost of a specific, fairly standard repair, even if at the end of the day it ends up being something else.
In my mind this reeks of a scam. Of a place intending to trap you into paying their price rather than the market rate.
