Greeted by the most beautiful birdsong, the grounds - now a reserve - have a haunting yet peaceful presence. I was so delighted to have found this place, thanks to impeccable directions from Google Maps. The coastal drive and magnificent views make this a wonderful side excursion off SH1.

What a fantastic spot to explore, big area to walk around, DOGS ARE ALLOWED!!!! A fantastic spot tucked off the motorway in a little coastal town, you could easily spend half a day here with the kids, bring a lunch pack or just head down to a cafe afterwards. Highly recommend

I've never been more glad to leave a reserve than when I entered it. Unsightly and unmaintained with an aura of oppression befitting it's barbaric historical purpose. There's really nothing left to see. I'm afraid I don't understand the high reviews.

Great local history for Dunedin, amazing grounds to have a walk about and some interesting plaques to read about Seacliff Asylum. A hidden treasure for sure and would have been both amazing and terrifying in its day.

Beautiful trees and bushes in a peaceful setting.we went on a lovely sunny day and really enjoyed the history and peacefulness.hard to believe it was once a place of such sadness.next time we will take a picnic and check out the Enchanted forest

The building no longer exists but one can walk around and have a quiet picnic or read in the bush.

A nice place for a walk around and to experience some historical remains. Disappointing that there is very little signage at the entrance about what's there. For example, I stumbled across the Janet Frame plaque by accident, and if I hadn't known about I would have missed it!
