★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Greatest Engineering Project in New Zealand The 10km Tail-race tunnels for the Manapouri Power Project from 1964 and 1998 are well worth a visit. The Second Tunnel has a pump room complex attached for the ability to de-water for inspection. the original Tunnel has never been de-watered since it's 1969 commissioning.
