★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Spent new years eve 2016 here. Had an amazing time. Great facilities, awesome day drip to lake crucible from here. Was the nicest stop on our 5 day, 100km hike.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This hut is a true gem of the DOC system of tramping huts. It is set in the Siberia Valley and has truly stunning scenery all around. Just take a look at some of the images online. There is no gas provided, but a heating stove, and clean water is. Bring your cooking stove and fuel.
Many stay here as part of the Gillespie Pass Circuit. However, we came in via Kerin Forks and stayed two nights. We used the second day to do the hike to Crucible Lake (highly recommend). Then hiked out to Makarora along the Wilkin River Track. There are lots of waterfalls in the area, including a great one just outside the front door of the hut. I really enjoyed the itinerary we chose as we avoided the huge elevation gain of crossing the Pass, and it gave us ample time to explore the valley fully.
