I deal with many small businesses and this one is possibly one of the most organized. Their IT system, reporting, updates and professionalism are first class. Definitely will consider them when building a home because I know that it will be well planned and implemented.

won't be using your services after seeing and hearing what a friend went through using you ...... you don't come recommended at all. And now you are telling my friend that you'll potentially fix your shoddy work at a cost to her! Not what I call professional, or standing by your mantra. A renovation only 5 months old needing remedial work is not a testament to good quality workmanship. >:o( REGARDING THE REPLY It has been nearly 6 months since you acknowledged that there was work needing to be remedied, and it is still not resolved! It would appear to me, that you don't want to take full responsibility for this awful workmanship; and the pittance that you have offered to remedy such faults, is an embarrassment to your company's so-called "putting things right". I have seen this work firsthand, and even as a novice, I was appalled at the level of workmanship, eg: given you couldn't even put a window stay on properly, and some parts of the windows weren't even painted. Tsk tsk tsk. AND THIS SORRY SAGA STILL CONTINUES ..... Despite plans and many promises for remedial works to be organised on my friend's home, from August onwards to Christmas, to fix their own shoddy, inept and well over budget work, it will not be happening before Christmas. She has just been advised that due to 4 workers suffering health issues, the company "have decided how best to move forward" and it won't be started until the New Year .... sometime. Without any consultation with her, they have made this decision?! Seriously? So! over 10 months to get their mistakes sorted and still nothing! It would appear Smartway have no contingency plans in place, and don't employ "temp workers" (like other firms do). Irony is I guess they won’t employ any temps as they won’t be up to their own β€œquality work”. 24 months later and this saga doesn't look like ending soon ...... I feel for my friend with the stress and frustration she must be feeling. No doubt, Smartway will apologise – again (and if she had a $ for every apology …..). AND WE ARE STILL WAITING ...... I think the company now needs to "stand up like a man and be counted" and acknowledge properly that they DID ALLOW shoddy work to be done. Despite too-ing and fro-ing, over a few grands worth of work, surely they themselves would like this "done with". "Having to think about it" is not a solution, and it looks like it might be 2019 before it gets done ....... tsk tsk tsk. 3 years for a simple extension. NOT GOOD.

We were very pleased with the building repair work done on our house bySmartway Builders Ltd. It was done at short notice, the workmen were very polite and professional, and the final price came in under the quote. We are happy to give Smartway Builders a glowing reference. Ruth and Winton Cleal.

Smartway builders re-clad the front of our home as a result of earthquake damage to hardiplank weatherboards back in 2017. Communication and professionalism was first rate , right down from the business owners- Ann & Howard - through to all the chaps on the tools

Ann & Howard were the best when helping a client of mine get themselves out of a sticky situation! It was a project that was wired with emotion and also had tight deadlines. Expertise was brought in by them from the architecture to the build and completed everything with professionalism. The result was beyond what we all expected and I know that my client is for ever grateful for their help. I look forward to always recommending the team at Smartway for future projects,

Smartway Builders were recommended to us by a friend when we decided to upgrade our lounge and dining areas. The project was a dream. The work was done on time and the build team made the work as least disruptive as they could and treated our home with respect. I would not hesitate to use this company again for further work on our house. Brilliant

REPLY TO REPLY I can only comment on the service and workmanship I got from Smartway Builders - simply attrocious! I see they list this on their site as a sucess story. If this is success I would hate to see failure! Check out the photos from my build. Now more than 2 years later and 8 months to finally agree to fix it at no cost to me, I am now being blamed for it is taking so long to fix because I said I wanted it painted in dry weather. I remedied a lot of the issues myself as I needed to make it watertight for winter and other issues weren't fixed weren't that good. You of couse, just apologise and walk away, but I have to live with the consequences forever - a huge mess I cannot afford to now fix or finish due to project going $30k plus over budget even after taking $30-$40k of work off original scope. So could have been $80-$100k over budget if all work done, which you knew I couldn't afford. REVIEW I hired Smartway Builders (Straight Edge Builders undertook the work on site) in August 2015 to do a renovation - biggest mistake of my life! Extra costs started coming in almost from the start with extra ground work required, some provisional sums were only half than the actual costs and a $2k item required for the consent that had not even been included in the price just to fit it in budget given so I would sign up for the work, and then thousands in variations charged at the end. Project just never seemed to end (and actually still hasn't 30 months after first meeting) and was told that schedule was not realistic to begin with. Came home several times to find the workers had been watching TV, in the lounge, even closing the curtains, used my kitchen facilities and went through my bathroom cupboards several times, also a couple of items I am now unable to locate. Had damage to bedroom furniture and wallpaper in the hallway, several internal doors also need repainting and my stained cedar front door was dented and their fix was to fill it with white builders bog. As for workmanship – simply appalling. Weatherboards cut so badly they needed to be redone, nails in skirting and scotia all bent and not punched in, some parts didn’t even have any. Bathroom finish disgusting, skirting boards didn't even meet the toilet, silicone left over everything the shower, even the window stay is not put on correctly screws missing, one on a funny angle and the arm fixed so high you can’t use first hook. Once the vanity was installed realised the powerpoint was halfway over it and about 1 inch above it, so couldn't install my tiled splashback. Was then told this was my own fault as wires had been there for ages and I had not said anything so if I wanted it moved I would have to pay all the costs and it would delay the project even more. Paid for electrician to move it and fixed and painted the wall myself. Afterwards I had to get the heated towel rail removed as couldn’t open the vanity drawers with it where it was. GIB for the powerpoints bedroom cut incorrectly (again fixed myself) and the floor in the master bedroom was uneven so the skirting was just then left with a gap underneath higher than the carpet would be. Downpipes put in weird places put through ramps and decks instead of putting an extra piece of downpipe in to make it go around and then downpipe brackets just hacked off and some vbare lumps of wood just nailed to the house. Backyard, and gardens left in a mess and I am still picking up nails, concrete and offcuts from the lawn. Smartway were also supposed to take care of organising the installation of the fireplace and for the tiler to do the hearth before the fire went in, but in the end I also had to do all this myself. And when they did sort out incorrect ZIP delivery (as ordered myself) charged me an $300. Unfortunately it didn’t stop there. The painters they hired were also just bad, not even sure they did any prep work on the existing house before painting and window frames left unpainted and gaps not filled and any fixtures just painted over.

Renovations are never stress free - but working with Smartway was about as close as it gets! The 6 week job was done on time - in the whole time period I don't think the site was ever left with no trades! These guys know how to stay on time and on budget.
