★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The most amazing museum in New Zealand, we spent a lot of time with the kids and the gemstone area. Which is really targeted to any young person or young at heart or anyone that's interested in New Zealand precious stones. Aswell I I loved the interactive video at the beginning, I felt like I had gone back in time to be fair and created a great story for me to teach my children about the history of New Zealand as this is one of the earliest settlements in terms of Europeans to New Zealand. It is a must if you go to Southland

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really great experience to visit this little Southland museum. Interesting stories about history of the region, nice welcome movie, friendly staff. Entrance fee $9 per Adult is ok, worth to spend there around 2 hours to read thru all the information panels or enjoy the place. Be aware of motion detector for lights/power so if you got stuck with one exhibition, you'll need to make some move to start power again :)
