In the early 1990s the health landscape in Aotearoa underwent significant reform, a process which offered the Hauraki MΔori Trust Board the opportunity to develop an iwi-based health care service to provide for their local community.
Centred on the unique health needs of the people of this region, the service would place Hauraki whΔnau and Kaupapa MΔori approaches at its core.
The Board established Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki after undertaking a thorough health needs assessment of the Hauraki rohe.
