★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The highlight of our New Zealand holiday! Roy’s organization and communication was exceptional! Garreth and Alex were expert instructors, who took the time to get alongside each of us and give encouragement, support and the instruction we needed as beginners! They could pick where the fish would be, happily took us to a few different spots, and shared in our excitement when we each caught multiple rainbow trout! A full day of fun, and the rain showers didn’t dampen our spirits at all! Highly recommend making a day of this!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a great day out with Gareth back in January. Finally getting the review posted since the Orvis store where I work is closed.
Fun day on the river with Gareth. He is very hard working and skilled as a guide as well as a great guy to spend the day with. He spotted and put me onto a number of nice rainbows like the one pictured. Watching a big trout eat a well presented fly in crystal clear water is quite a thrill. I have been fortunate to fish with some excellent guides all over the world and Gareth is among the best.
Roy made all the arrangements and gave me good advice on what gear to bring and what not to bring. Looking forward to the time when we can all travel again and return to New Zealand. My next trip will be scheduled around Gareth's availability.

It was a good experience and we've learned a lot with 6 trouts landed. Gareth is truly obsessed with fly fishing and also a good teacher. He's patient and knowledgeable. Also he knows how to maintain minimum while necessary help to guarantee success as well as our fun fishing by ourselves.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a great day fishing with Gareth on the Hinemaiaia. Managed to hook 15 trout so couldn't ask for much more than that in a morning. Roy was great to deal with and very helpful in organising the day. I would highly recommend the NZ Fly Fishing company to anyone wanting to catch a few trout.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I cannot recommend the team at The New Zealand Fly Fishing Company enough. My partner and I had our first full day with our guide Pete 2 months ago, since then we have become HOOKED! The team pointed us in the right direction with our own gear and last week we had our second guided day out with Pete where both of us landed our very first rainbow trout in the Hinemaiaia. The next day we went out alone and caught one all on our own after being taught everything from assembling our lines and tactics in the water. It was an absolute rush and we are so over-joyed that we have found something that we can do together to bond, but also it is such a great way to practice mindfulness and step away from our busy work life. Thanks again Roy and Pete for being such massive contributors to our new found hobby!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Back in North Carolina now - it is my great pleasure to say that the day of fishing with Alex was absolutely the very best guiding that I have ever experienced. (Not my first rodeo).
Everything was well communicated, from checking in the day before to making sure I felt safe wading. Alex is a great guy, he wanted to hone in on what I wanted to do and to achieve for the day and he got busy making sure it happened. It is so heartwarming to see a guide who is not jaded (particularly at the end of summer) and who genuinely loves to fish. He knows the water like the back of his hand and put me onto good fish time and again.
Thanks to Alex, I caught some very nice fish. At the end of the day, we fished some really tough, still water and the man never gave up. Finicky fish were refusing everything we presented - finally he tied on a soft hackle and I said, "Okay, this is the last cast of the day." Storybook ending to a fantastic day - we landed a nice big Rainbow.
I cannot say enough good things about fishing with Alex. Suffice it to say that anyone who gets to fish with him is a lucky soul.
I cannot wait to come back and do it again!

Not only was he a great companion, he had many years experience, the local knowledge to find the best spots and the patience to teach me to make this a truly outstanding day to remember. Not only did I learn a lot, have great conversations, and a nice lunch outdoors - I caught three amazing trout ! Thoroughly recommended.

My guide, Chris Brennan was extremely knowledgeable of the local fishing spots & believe me an outstanding fisherman, guide & teacher.
Honestly, I find it hard to imagine 2 better days fly fishing than the days I had with Chris.
I should perhaps mention I landed 21 Rainbow trout, over the 2 days, with substantial help & instruction from Chris.
100% I will be back next time I'm in NZ.
