About The Rolling Mill
Our Cuba Street Workshop
Our workshop is located in the heritage Maguire’s Building which was built in 1900, beautifully restored and restrengthened by the current building owner, with the original brick wall, hardwood timber floors, Edwardian arched windows and vintage charm throughout. We wanted to respect the old aesthetics of the building by including native Rimu furniture made from the salvaged timber of the old BNZ bank in Wairoa. The timber furniture has been crafted by Nick's father Phil Hensman at his wood workshop in Kereru, Hawkes Bay.
Historic occupants of the Maguire’s Building included; jewellers (1905-25 and 1961-68), watchmakers, fishmongers, tailors, tea merchants, pawnbrokers and cafés.
We were previously located at the old Aro Street shop-front, however as our space was limited and our business was growing, we realised we needed more space! With the old building owner notifying us of an upcoming sale, we took the opportunity to find a new space where The Rolling Mill could set it’s roots, and in 2019 we found our amazing new Cuba Street studio, so we’re excited to welcome our new and existing customers to Cuba Street!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Im a little late in leaving this review as my purchasing experience with Nick, Vee and Nigel at The Rolling Mill was back in June 2019. It was, however, probably to the best customer service and experience I have ever had. The Rolling Mill made an exquisite engagement ring for me in the short time that I needed, before my partner and I left New Zealand to return back to the UK. I dealt mostly directly with Nick who was unbelievably accommodating. He was able to meet me in store, reply to my emails and speak to me on the phone at my convenience (even if this meant staying late in store after closing time). I had some ideas as to how I wanted the ring to look and after meeting with Nick and discussing these ideas, he was able to come up with a drawing that was exactly how I pictured the ring to look. Nick took all the time I needed and was able to come up with ideas / suggestions that aligned with my budged. There is a lot to ring making that an outsider doesn't realise and for aspects I hadn't considered, Nick was able to suggest an advise what he thought might work best. He did this whilst keeping my ideas in mind and sticking to the vision I had in my head. Nick also did an amazing job in sourcing a diamond of the highest quality within my budget. The diamond obviously came with an official IGI grading certificate. My partner (now fiancé) and I had planned to leave New Zealand and return to the UK after living and working in there for 12 months. It meant a lot to me that Nick and the team were able to design and make such a beautiful ring at such short notice, in a country that we had had such a great time living and working in. Nick and the Team were even kind enough to hand the finished product over with a bottle of Champagne! Over all, the customer service and experience I had at The Rolling Mill and the quality of the final piece was more than five stars! I cant thank Nick and the team enough - you were fantastic. If its not clear in this review, I would highly recommend the Rolling Mill to anyone looking for bespoke, hight quality jewellery and customer service that is second to none!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A++++++ Jewellers. We had such a phenomenal experience dealing with Nick. Not only does he take your ideas on board and creates such wonderful pieces with his own little flare but he's an all round top bloke. Great banter, service and makes the experience super fun. Also a big thanks to Vee for her amazingly helpful communication with my fiance which helped make the process very smooth. Thank you again guys for creating our dream wedding rings that will last a lifetime, your work is flawless. Highly recommend seeing Nick and his team!! We will be back and definitely spreading the word :)

They were able to source and explore options for my husbands ring. We always enjoyed going in to catch up on process and tease out the direction we wanted to go. Stunning craftsmanship and wonderful people! Couldn't recommend The Rolling Mill more.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We knew we wanted a personal, bespoke experience when designing the engagement ring, and that’s exactly what we got from The Rolling Mill.
When we embarked on the journey of designing the ring, we had a list of three jewellers that we met with. After our first meeting with Nick, we knew we wanted to go with The Rolling Mill. We got the feeling that Nick is super passionate about what he does, and we would be well taken care of.
Nick, Nigel and Vee were amazing, right through the entire design process and in the creation of the ring. The team are super friendly, easy going, great at communicating and obviously love what they do.
We came to Nick with a bunch of ideas and he turned it into a beautiful reality. Taking us through what ideas would work and what needed tweaking. The final creation and craftmanship is just perfect. We’ve had many compliments on the ring and I always catch myself admiring it with a smile (which makes my other half happy!).
We are both incredibly happy with the engagement ring and highly recommend the team at The Rolling Mill. Thanks a mill!

The chat with Nick really made us realise that Rolling Mill would be the perfect place to make a ring with a story.
We had our own thoughts on how the engagement and wedding ring should be and we wanted the expertise of jewellers who really know how to bring our ideas to life but also really enjoy the special occasion and love what they do and we had the wonderful opportunity to experience it firsthand.
The Rolling Mill with Nick, Nigel and Vee are very prompt in their communication, after having them make our wedding and engagement
rings, we can say one thing for sure - they are such good people and I can't think of anyone better who will make your rings for your
very special occasion, whatever they may be.
