About The Rumpus Room
The Rumpus Room values community and this is reflected in the culture of the centre. We believe having strong ties to the community gives both the children, whanau and team in the centre a sense of well being and belonging in the wider community. We are one link in the chain of learning and we work with the new entrant teachers at the Primary Schools our children graduate to in order to ensure they transition seamlessly. We view the environment as the third teacher and feel it is important for children to be able to explore their environment to make sense of their world in their own way and time. We want our centre and our children to be part of our fabulous local community and that means exploring it and getting to know other members of the community. We frequently utilise the nearby resources of Western Springs, Moa Reserve, MOTAT, and the Zoo to expose the children to the natural world and develop their understanding of their place in it. We take the children out to the library, to the supermarket and to the nearby playgrounds to keep growing their love of adventure. Parents and whanau are always welcome to take part. New Zealand is a multi – cultural country, we respect and encourage all aspects of all cultures and backgrounds. Te Tiriti o Waitangi reflects the unique place Maori have in our community and we respect Maori as tangata whenua. Aotearoa / New Zealand is the home of te reo Maori (Maori language) and tikanga (Maori culture and tradition). These values are brought in to the children’s everyday interactions, experiences and learning.
