Our experience with The Sellers Room for kitchen, wardrobe, laundry and bathroom vanities in our new build home was labour-intensive in terms of follow-up and quite disheartening overall. I will give The Sellers Room credit for attempting to fix the wardrobe that was not made to the written measurement specifications that we provided, and for fixing the scullery shelving pegs that didn’t line up resulting in wobbly shelves. We have a shelf that we didn’t want in the wardrobe and lots of extra holes that are unnecessary in the scullery. I will also give The Sellers Room credit for attempting to rectify oils drawer they forgot, which we had to abandon anyway because drawers were not deep enough. Credit due too to The Sellers Room for remedying the spice drawer they forgot, but it is perplexing why The Sellers Room asked me how many spices bottles I typically use and then supplied a spice rack that accommodates less than that amount. Credit to The Sellers Room for attempting to fix their bookcase that was supposed to hold two shelves of recipe books! That is, as long as no book was taller than 6 inches. It is now just one shelf with lots more unnecessary holes. When we asked The Sellers Room how much it will cost when they said they had to replace 20 linear metres of oak timber that we supplied, they answered with an invoice after job done that had an additional cost of $2664 + GST over and above their original quote. That equates to $133 a linear metre for oak?! No, apparently it was for oak and “extra stuff” undefined and unapproved on our part. I will give The Sellers Room credit for creative invoicing, when they decided to “ignore” the original quote and write up a “new quote” AFTER the installation which added this same figure of $2664 + GST without any further explanation from the original approved quote, and even more creativity for attempting to appease us with a “discount” of $876 on the $2664 that we never approved. I will give The Sellers Room credit of backing down on pursuing that $2664, and agreeing to have us paying $600 for the oak, which was closer to the market value. The Sellers Room did adhere to the Fair Trading Act, eventually. And when the expensive timber kitchen island showed gaps between sections shortly after installation, The Sellers Room staff finally came by 2 months later and dragged out the process for additional 2 months only to produce a quote for another $690 to repair at our expense. It is not their problem The Sellers Room said because they did everything right. Well, I obviously didn’t, because I chose The Sellers Room.
