About The Taranaki Cathedral Church of St Mary
Well, that’s what we are working to find out. Dr Dmytro Dizhur and assistant Dr Marta Giaretton were on site for three days in January investigating the makeup of our stone walls. Using a combination of techniques, the aim was to gain a lot more information on the properties of our unreinforced masonry walls. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hopeful place. Closed because of earthquake regulations and possible danger. You can not see inside but the lovely building and trees can be viewed. A path from Pukekura Park leads to the statues behind the Cathedral and the video shows how it has a table for lunchtime . It is within walking distance from the central business district.The building at the back is new.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If visiting New Plymouth...or if you live here..you should visit the cathedral. Although the actual Cathedral is closed for earthquake strengthening there is still much to see. The graveyard is full of people with some of the most interesting stories. The garden of remembrance is a beautiful and serene place to sit and contemplate. There is always a warm welcome at the welcome desk for information

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love wandering around this churchyard. Unfortunately, its closed now due to earthquake or something. I have a family plaque from the 1800's inside. The trees are beautiful, and so is the architecture. Very tranquil.
