About Top Taste Restaurant
In 2001, my family decided to pursue a new challenge and made a complete lifestyle change. We would try to open and run our own restaurant. We purchased an old Chinese style restaurant in Porirua named “The Golden Dragon”, we renamed it “Top Taste” and renovated the restaurant with a new coat of fresh paint, new art, tables and chairs, and brought in new equipment to showcase that it was a new start. In 2007, we moved buildings (to around the corner from our old spot) to what is locally known to be “the old Baby Factory” in the 1990’s, and “the old Porirua Cinemas” in the 1950’s. To transform this large space, we installed a new kitchen, new bathrooms, and a new dinner room.
Me and my older brother Deon spent a lot of our youth in this small business to help out the family and to keep it growing. I first started by serving customers over the counter in the takeaway, and it wouldn’t be long until I was on the floor serving meals and taking orders in the restaurant. I would often be here after school, during my school holidays and in the summer break. Top Taste became my second home, and I started to learn to do more business things each and every year by helping my Mum run the business.

β β β β β Mediocre taste, for the price they charge. Ordered three dishes and they taste almost the same, and way too salty. Good dining environment though.

β β β β β We went for dinner with our granddaughter. Four Dim Sims the same from the bulk frozen packet we buy for home 19.50 $5 apiece. Whilst the remainder of the meal was ok it was grossly overpriced as to spoil the taste of the evening. $140 - 2 small mains 3 starters 2 beers 1 watery gin (no Lemon). Topped off by the wait staff βcleverlyβ remembering our order. We got it but out of order.
We have often taken grandees out when they stay, Top Taste is off the visiting list.

β β β β β I could not believe when returning to pick up our takeaways , ( with out my wallet ) but had already paid $85.00. EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS for our food , I asked for a bag to put all our food in , the young foreign boy said thatβs 50 cents !!! I said weβve just paid $85.00 !! β¦but more or less too bad , we need another 50c !! OMG ?

Not authentic Chinese restaurant, although it's run by Chinese.
The Chinese food, with European infusion. If you want authenticity, this may not be the place for you.
Still food was tasty, great location with easy parking. Hence the 5 stars.

β β β β β The food and service at Top Taste is always excellent . Been here several times and have never been disappointed. The Mongolian Style Hotplate (Lamb) was very delicious and a very generous portion . Also recommend their dessert Frangelico Parfait w Almond Base.

β β β β β Don't even deserve 1 star. The price of the food we received was disgusting. $21.50 for soggy sweet and sour pork and a lemon chicken that honestly taste like cat. Let's not mention the cold sticky rice. And $6 for a bottle of drink. The only decent part of the meal was the company of my partner in the comfort of our Home. Never again will we get food from here. What a total waste of $60 odd $$$$$
