A safe sanctuary has been created alongside Turitea stream for tuna eels in the hope that they will repopulate.
There was none to be spotted as I looked out , but apparently sometimes can be seen sunset and sunrise.Although this is a new project and will take time.
You can throw meat into the stream from the platform at the waters edge for eels but do not hand feed as they can bite.
