About Viands Bakery
Our daughter Kathy and son in law Shane are extremely skilled bakers and left to branch out on their own having purchased `The Baker’ bakery in Tirau.
As a family we have won 3 NZ Bakels Supreme Pie awards, also winning 5 New Zealand Baker of the Year titles and being runner up on 2 occasions.
We are a traditional Kiwi bakery owned and operated by John & Lynda Atwill. With added help from our son Grayson who specialises in yeast products, having worked in a bakery in Singapore.
We previously owned a bakery in Gisborne for 10 years and a further 16 years in Wairoa before purchasing Viands from Chris and Pam Patterson in 2010 in KihiKihi, Waikato.
Our company includes Lynda (my wife) and myself (John) as directors, along with our eldest son Grayson and his wife Jane. Our Bakery Supervisor Raj Singh and his wife Gurpreet as our Office Manager. The kitchen and shop are well looked after by Deborah, Zac, Annee, Nissa, Piki, Kathrine, Shannon, Josh and Hine Anne, with weekenders Bridget & Shontelle
The bakers are our new apprentice Tamilla, with Devinder, Shivi, Gurinder, Deep and Grayson
With this team we are able to produce good quality products and a large variety of baked goods to satisfy our customers.
After about 5 good years in our shop and kitchen, Tamilla has just started an apprenticeship with us and she along with the rest of our team are going to be a vital part of Viands Bakery well into the future.

β β β β β The bakery all together is great mostly has tasty food I got the potato top pie and it had no flavor or seasoning to the mashed potato so I recommend to not get the potato top pie the price for it is not worth it

β β β β β A busy little Gem. Food was fresh at 12.30pm. The 3 ladies behind the counter were polite as they were rushed off their feet. I do highly recommend the food and the hot chocolate.

β β β β β Honestly their birthday cakes absolutely delicious!! Iβve bought two cakes from them and theyβve been so helpful with the design and they were only $50!!! Iβve moved recently but if I still lived in Te Awamutu/Kihikihi. This bakery would be the only place Iβd get my cakes from!

β β β β β Some just get it right. These guys do! Lamb bun/roll. Nice coffee. Good selection of buns/rolls with filling. Should call themselves the good baker. Normally we'll staffed even if busy

β β β β β Very friendly and helpful staff. The guy who served us was enthusiastic and knowledge, and happy to make recommendations.
The food was good too. Generous serving sizes and quality ingredients.
We sat outside and I think this was the worst part about it, the outdoor seating is close to the road.
Overall it's worth stopping at, especially if you can find a park.

β β β β β I would have given 5 stars but they've recently reduced the selection of pies. I'm a fan of their Steak and Kidney pies, been in a couple of times and had to go to my second best of Steak and Pepper. Was told that they're not going to do Steak and Kidney anymore. Sad. Also didn't see the vegetation pies or boil up pies or any of the other interesting varieties. Please keep creating something different as that's why I like the place sooo much.
I have the same passion for their award winning fruit pies as well and the they've reduced in varieties as well.
Also, Viands, have you changed the pastry recipe for the savory pies. Didn't seem to be as flaky as before, still okay but not as good.
