Dannevirke accommodation situated in the heart of Dannevirke township, in the Tararua District at the foothills of the Rauhine Ranges. The Tararua District is bounded by Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu and Wairarapa Districts and the Pacific Ocean. Dannevirke township is centrally located, situated 45 mins drive to Palmerston North, 1.5 hours drive to Napier, 2 hours drive to Masterton and 3 hours drive to Wellington.
Dannevirke was settled by Scandinavian immigrants in the 1870s. The name ‘Dannevirke’ means ‘Dane’s Work’ and refers to the great wall that was built across the Denmark Peninsula as protection against the Saxons.
Our Tararua accommodation is just a short stroll to the Dannevirke shops, restaurants, croquet and bowling clubs. Short drive to Dannevirke Golf Club, and 15 mins drive to Norsewood and Norsewear Industries. Read more about the Tararua District.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice couple run this place. Suitable sized rooms. It's an older establishment fore sure, but because they keep up with the maintenance, it somehow didn't feel dated. You can tell they care about their place, clean and tidy, up-to-date paintwork, everything to keep it as a suitable place of stay. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is due to their wifi\internet. They use a 3rd party management system that gave me nothing but greif and I would suggest they look into another way to provide their guest with internet. On all my devices it kept dropping out, was incredibly slow when it was working, to a point of me just got spotting from my phone so I could continue working. If the internet isn't a factor, then absolutely stay here. :)

Dated decor and a bit tatty.
Strange layout and complicated wifi system.
Did not sleep well as we could hear people in ajoining rooms talking until 4am & traffic on main road.
We will not be back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Positive: Very affordable for what I got, bed was comfortable and liked the kitchen facilities.. Negative: The only thing stopping my rating from reaching a 10 was the outside light that flicked on and off through out the night. This was annoying as the curtains weren't quite dark enough to block out the light so the flashing was really noticeable when it came to sleeping..

Might be dated as far as the kitchen and bathroom go but everything was in excellent condition and the cleanliness is outstanding and that’s why I gave 5 stars. Nice and quiet apart from the expected road noise. There’s wifi and sky television. Walking distance to shops and anything you need.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had an amazing stay. Beds were clean and comfortable. Even through it us on the edge of town. There is a park nearby, a Mc Donalds and a gas station for any quick needs. There are more stores, didn't look around too much more. Friendly staff. Sky TV. Friendly permanent residents. Was a bit disappointed that there was no 2 plate stove for cooking, but managed with microwave and bbq at a park around the corner. The fridge and and some crockery were dirty in the cupboards and needed a thorough cleaning before we could use them. The carpets had not been vacummed before we came. I will use the facility again and hope these little things will be addressed. Will be more prepared next time.
