★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This memorial to the shipwreck disaster in 1968 is both informative and poignant. It seems somewhat surreal standing on the spot where many of the bodies and survivors of the Wahine sinking washed up. On a sunny Wellington day it is hard to imagine the stormy conditions and the sights that the rescuers of Eastbourne experienced. Photos and the mast of the Wahine help give a sense of realism. It is a fitting memorial to all who were involved in such an important event in the history of New Zealand.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent! Nice little beach with interesting things to find. Well written and engaging info about the Wahine disaster, not too in depth but with lots of pictures. A beautiful place to sit and reflect, or bring the kids for a run around and quick history lesson.
