Very poor, we had this trip planned for 3 months, we had kept in constant contact with them, they knew there was 4 adults all vaxd, an 1 child unvaxed, yet we drove 5hrs to get there fri evening only 4 them to tell us that we cant stay because of our child being unvaxed, they said dint even matter what age child was u cant stay here, pathetic, nz is turned in2 such a disgrace, makes me sick wot this government has done.

I absolutely loved Waihau Bay Lodge...super friendly and helpful staff, stunning location, clean and the best bacon burger I have eaten in a long time!! I am looking forward to returning.

Customer service was sad as and honestly pretty rude tbh came here to stay for 2 nights and when we got there she gave us a uncomfortable welcoming, got our key to our room and that was fine. The next day we had to move to a different unit as the unit we were in was booked for the next day, checkout time is 10:00 so we packed our stuff and moved to the next unit. as i opened the door the cleaner said to me in a rude tone "ohh that room aint clean yet, unless you want it like that" smirked then walked away. Then, she went in our last room and complained telling us to stop moving furniture around, but the reason why we did that is because it is hot in those rooms and we wanted to move our beds closer to the windows for more comfort. It felt was like they kept watching us because we were basically the only maoris staying there, i could also go on more about how rude they are but i aint that petty.

Very basic cheap rooms filled with mosquito's and window gaffa taped shut. If you don't mind this then check it out. No hobnail boots inside though!

Waihau Bay Lodge was built by my grandparents, it is/was our heritage. My husband and I ran it for family from 1964/1969..a magical bay. Lunch at the Lodge is supreme, the fish/lunch perfectly cooked, well presented, I would recommend it to anyone

We stayed on the powered van site and it was nice. My dad stayed in the accomodation. It was basic but was ok. The showers were nice and hot although only 1 male and 1 female shower. Great location and staff are friendly.

Cool location, but does feel like a bit of a Monopoly. The 'budget' ($90) accomodation was very basic, rundown and unclean... we slept on top of the beds as the sheets were not clean. In hindsight, I think the campsites would be much better value. I also recommend to BYO booze if you dont want to pay an arm and a leg for a bottle of cheap wine.

Would never stay there again, really unwelcome reception, felt that it was because we looked European ( but I’m not), gang members regularly buying alcohol from behind the pub, doing wheelies etc, we were abused just for being in the vicinity. Had a nice meal in the restaurant and the young lady serving etc was lovely. Was threatened buy locals just driving around, we decided not to go any further on our trip along the east coast & headed inland where we felt welcome, safe and spent our limited funds. Wow, we are westies from way back, now live in the heart of Ngapuhi and have never experienced behaviour like this before, sad ☹️.
