Waikato Hospital - Waikato Hospital
About Waikato Hospital
We welcome your application; however as an employer in New Zealand, Waikato DHB is required to comply with New Zealand Immigration laws.
Therefore, you are required to hold one of the following before commencing employment:
- New Zealand residency
- a work visa to enter New Zealand
- a work permit once you are in New Zealand
- or a talent visa.
Establishing a pathway and applying for the relevant immigration status to enter the country can be overwhelming. However New Zealand Immigration has excellent resources and can provide information, support and advice on how to ensure to the process goes as smoothly as possible.
Resident applications can take several months to process; therefore a majority of our new overseas recruits apply for work visas/permits. In some cases, you are unable to gain a work permit/visa without securing a job offer and subsequently registration with a professional board in New Zealand. The Recruitment Service will advise you accordingly once you have submitted your application for employment and will provide any required supporting documentation should you be made an offer of employment.
To support your application and make the process as easy as possible Waikato District Health Board has accreditation under the Talent (Accredited Employers) Work Policy. This provides a pathway for health professionals to be appointed to a position that may not have been possible under the work visa/permit scheme.
The best way to ensure that your application is processed efficiently is to ensure that when you submit your application you have provided all the information requested. New Zealand Immigration will provide you with checklists for you to follow. Should information be missing or further information be required, this will delay the processing of your application.

โ โ โ โ โ Had a ct scan booked for 9 03 22 at 8.15am. Arrived at the car park about 7.50, arrived at reception just after 8am. Directed to waiting corridor. Had just been seated for a minute, they called my name, Had the scan and out at 20 past 8. Carpark was free ( less than 30 minutes) amazing. Ticket got sucked into the exit machine and nothing happened. Had to wait a couple of minutes to be let out but that didn't dampen my day. Great experience. Thanks team

โ โ โ โ โ I have worked in the hospital so KNOW how busy the place gets.
My father contracted COVID19 whilst in hospital, just before he was due to be discharged. The only way know how he is doing is get on the phone.
1st of April we tried from 1130 to get an update. Numerous calls unanswered, or disconnected and two we will ring back.
It took a call to the duty manager to finally get a call with a brief update.
2nd April...again tried since 10am. Again unanswered/disconnected calls and I am currently waiting for a call back that was held an hour ago...I initially was told to call back in 10 minutes as nurse busy.

โ โ โ โ โ I was advised the waiting time was 5 to 6 hours. It ended up being 12.5 hours waiting in a corridor because there was no rooms available. It was a caos, totally messy and sad to watch ( it resemblances the poverty 3rd world country hospitals). I honestly felt sorry for the nurses and hospital workers, they were trying their best, but they were clearly overwhelmed. Lots of improvements are urgently needed in NZ Health System ?

โ โ โ โ โ My experience here: My daughter had some problems at birth (seizures and breathing issues) and was sent to the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) for a few days. They made us feel better in what was the worst week of my life. Not knowing what would happen with my daughter. But the nurses and doctors in NICU took such good care of her (and us) that I have just come home with a perfectly healthy beautiful little girl who is doing so well. All thanks to the amazing team at Waikato hospital specifically at NICU. The nurses there are true heroes who save lives on a daily basis.
