About Wakefields Digital
We take a single printed laminated sheet and wrap it around 3 pieces of sturdy greyboard to create the hardcover PLC case for your book. Therefore, your artwork should be created as a single spread.
Before constructing the cover file, please contact your account manager to determine spine width. Spine width will be determined based on the number of sheets and stock type used.
A case-bound cover overhangs the inside pages, therefore the page height and width measurements are larger than the inside pages. The height and width should be the dimensions of your inside pages plus 8mm, e.g. if your inside pages are A4 (297 x 210mm) then your front cover dimensions will be 305 x 218mm. Make sure to keep all important text and graphics at least 10mm away from the page edges.
You’ll also need to add 20mm of ‘fold over bleed’, which is printed, folded over, and glued to the inside of the greyboard. Most of this area is not visible in the final book but you should still fill as much of the space as possible.
In addition, designs for hardcovers need to take the hinge into account, which is the area next to the spine that has no greyboard underneath. Try to keep all important text and graphics away from the hinge area. Also, don’t include the hinge area if centring content.

β β β β β I don't doubt they get it right most of the time, but when I took my job they got it wrong, 3 out of 4 books were not up to standard when binding. Blamed the whole thing on "skewed printing" which I supplied when the issues were based on the trimming. Rather than calling to consult the client at time of execution about the issues they say they encountered, they took decision of their own which were not of satisfactory manufacture standard, only to say but avoid fully acknowledging that we bought faulty packs of papers were the individual sheets were cut to different sizes, when the hell does prepackaged stacks of paper bring sheets slightly different to others.. Offered to do the job again, but we had to repay printing because that was the problem according to them, but when we asked about trimming they excused their poor execution by blaming the pre-packaged paper we supplied. Asked for my money back, gladly they had no problem doing that! Congrats to Dickon (manager?boss?) for winning heaps of prices in the Pride in Print Awards, unfortunately the winning attitude wasn't their from Wakefield Digital when it came to our books.

β β β β β I rushed after work to get there to have my documents printed and walked in at 5pm and the gentleman told me that he can't print anything, because they have already shut down all the printers. I was confused, because it says that they work until 5.30pm. But he didn't really care about it and just gave me an indifferent look. He mentioned other places where I could try to print my documents, but I still feel very disappointed with the service. Please mention on your website that you actually don't do anything after 5pm, so people won't waste their time to get to you.
